Medical call in southwest Charlotte turns into homicide investigation, police say

The man who died was originally seen by a witness. He had collapsed in a parking lot, but didn't have any obvious injuries.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A homicide investigation has been launched in southwest Charlotte late Saturday night.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed just after 9 p.m. officers had started the investigation along Fairwood Avenue, just off of South Tryon Street. More details were shared at the scene by an officer.

Maj. J.D. Thomas told WCNC Charlotte officers and Medic were initially called to the area because someone requested medical attention. A witness told first responders a man had collapsed in a nearby parking lot, but had no signs of injury or bleeding. However, a gunshot wound was discovered, and the man was rushed to the hospital. He later died.

As of now, the man has not been identified. A search and investigation is underway to see if more details about what led to the man's death can be determined or if a suspect can be named.
