Fight between CATS passengers leads to stabbing, officials say

The incident happened along Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood Thursday morning, officials said.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was seriously injured when an argument on a CATS bus led to a stabbing, transit officials said. 

The incident happened along Central Avenue near Piedmont Street around 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Both people involved were off the bus when the stabbing happened, according to a CATS spokesperson.

The agency issued the following statement to WCNC Charlotte: 

"Early this morning, a disagreement between two passengers occurred on a bus traveling outbound on Route 9. The bus operator promptly stopped at a safe location, where both individuals exited the vehicle. Subsequently, one individual inflicted a stab wound on the other away from the bus. There were no additional injuries reported from this event."

One person was taken to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Medic said. It's unclear if anyone was arrested in connection with the incident.
