Man accused of stabbing another man to death, Catawba County deputies say

The suspect remains held without bond, pending a first court appearance on Oct. 30.

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — The Catawba County Sheriff's Office says a man is accused of killing another man over a dispute.

Deputies said they responded to a home along Danial Street around 1 p.m. Saturday, just northwest of the town of Conover. The office said the victim, identified only as an adult man as of now, was found dead with apparent stab wounds.

The office said deputies were directed to a nearby residence where the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Kenny Raymond Walker, was located and taken into custody. Investigators said they believed the alleged stabbing stemmed from a dispute between Walker and the victim.

Deputies said they were working to identify the victim's immediate family members. Walker has been charged with murder and remains in jail. He is set for a first court appearance on Oct. 30, 2023.

Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.

WCNC Charlotte is choosing to show the mugshot of the suspect in this case because of the nature of the alleged crime.
