STATESVILLE, N.C. — Joshua McCrary is the Executive Director of Iredell Coast, a nonprofit and business that has its door open to service the community.
But not everyone is willing to ask for help.
Recent video footage shows a traveler with empty pockets breaking into Iredell Coast -- the second break in a month.
"The first time we were disheartened, we were discouraged," McCrary said. "The second time it was definitely anger."
McCrary said during the first break-in, the door was damaged, costing around $2,000, with the thief stealing nearly $1000. That money could've been used to feed a lot of people and help clothe some of the homeless.
"Being a small business and losing that money is definitely not easy," McCrary said.
The Statesville police said several other businesses were also hit, becoming a trend that happening from one side of town to the other. The details are limited but they’ve placed an investigator on each case as they work to pull the plug on the string of break-ins.
"There is a public concern about what is going on in our community," McCrary said. "I trust that this time they will find who did this and they will pay for what happened."
As the nonprofit continues pouring money into repairs, they’re asking for help from the community.
