A Statesville woman was found dead in her home. Police are investigating it as a homicide

STATESVILLE, N.C. — A Statesville woman was found dead inside her home Saturday morning.

The Statesville Police Department responded to a home on Hickory Avenue, roughly two miles away from downtown Statesville, around 4 a.m. on Saturday. 

When they arrived, police found 33-year-old Shelbie Smith dead within.

The Statesville Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, in collaboration with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, is investigating the death. On Wednesday, June 5, police confirmed Smith's death is being investigated as a homicide.
