Statesville shooting victim in critical condition, suspect on the loose

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries when he was shot multiple times in the legs, police said. He was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.

STATESVILLE, N.C. — A Statesville man was airlifted to a Winston-Salem hospital after being shot multiple times on Friday morning, investigators said. 

Statesville Police responded to a shooting on Gay Street around 3 a.m. on July 5. When officers arrived, they were told the victim was shot multiple times but he'd already been taken to the hospital by someone else.

The victim, 28-year-old Desmond Reshawn Gray, received immediate care at Iredell Memorial Hospital before he was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Regional Medical Center in critical condition. He suffered life-threatening injuries when he was shot multiple times in the legs, police said. 

Officers searched the home where Gray was shot after the area was secured. Investigators also processed the car he was taken to the hospital in for evidence. 

No arrests have been made and Statesville police haven't identified any suspects. Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call 704-878-3406 immediately.
