Suspects in stolen car slam into CMPD cruiser, another car during chase, police say

Both suspects were taken into custody.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said a pair of suspects in a stolen car not only hit another person's car during a chase Thursday afternoon but also hit one of the department's cruisers as well.

Officers said they were alerted about the suspected stolen vehicle around 1:30 p.m. They tried to handle a traffic stop but said the driver sped off.

CMPD's helicopter monitored the car as the department said the driver was driving erratically in traffic. At one point, the stolen car crashed into a citizen's car, only to drive away. Then police said the stolen car smashed into a CMPD cruiser twice along Farmhurst Drive, in a community southeast of I-77.

At that point, police said the suspects jumped out of the car and ran away. However, officers quickly found and arrested them. As of publication, the suspects' names haven't been released. CMPD has promised updates when available.
