Deadly shooting under investigation on Sunset Road

A CMPD incident report from the shooting says the suspect was attempting to commit larceny, and used a victim "as a human shield."

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person is dead and two others are hurt after a shooting in north Charlotte early Tuesday morning, according to Medic.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said it is investigating the incident as a homicide.

It happened around 4:40 a.m. on Sunset Road, just off Interstate 77 at Circle Arkade.

A CMPD incident report from the shooting says the suspect was attempting to commit larceny and used a victim "as a human shield."

Medic said the two people who were hurt were taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries in the city's latest deadly shooting.

“It’s really devastating that you have to sit and watch your back every day because you don’t know if you’re going to be hit in the line of crossfire," Jasmine Robinson, who lives in the area, said. "Prayers to the family and stuff. I just wish a lot of this stuff would stop.”

This shooting comes as investigators continue to see a rise in crime at similar gambling sites around Charlotte.

“It’s an establishment where people can come in and they gamble," Maj. Michael Ford with CMPD said. "We have a lot of these establishments in Charlotte. A lot of crime associated with these establishments.”

The department identified the victim Wednesday as 46-year-old Jeremy Moore.

CMPD said there have been no recent incidents at this specific arcade and believe they have a suspect.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. The public can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers online or via phone at 704-334-1600.
