Suspect reportedly in custody after police chase ends in northeast Charlotte

Officers were on foot in Tom Hunter Park after the suspect ran from a white SUV.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A person is reportedly in custody after a police chase in northeast Charlotte on Thursday morning. 

The incident started around 10:30 a.m. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police units were following a white SUV as it drove through north Charlotte. The driver eventually stopped at a dead end near Tom Hunter Park, which is in the Hidden Valley community in northeast Charlotte. 

CMPD officers at the scene told WCNC Charlotte's Austin Walker that the chase began when officers spotted a stolen vehicle. Officers said the suspect was taken into custody about 15 minutes after abandoning the vehicle. CMPD hasn't released that person's identity. 

CMPD's helicopter was circling Tom Hunter Park for several minutes while officers searched for the suspect. Multiple officers arrived on the scene after the suspect stopped.
