ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — One person has died after being shot in Rowan County, the Rowan County Sheriffs confirmed.
Rowan County Sheriffs responded to a reported shooting at Cone Drive in Woodleaf at about 1 a.m. When Deputies and medical arrived to the scene they found 17-year-old Jabari Rogers suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.
Deputies said the suspect had fled the scene and they are investigating the incident as a murder.
During the investigation, deputies determined the suspect as 25-year-old Hayden Godair. RCSO said Godair has a lengthy criminal record.
RCSO determined Godair fled the crime scene with 21-year-old Savanah Dial. One of Dial's addresses is listed as being on Cone Drive, officials say.
During the investigation, officials determined that Godair and Dial may have stolen a 1998 Sonoma truck from a residence on Parks Road, about a mile from the crime scene.
Dial and Godair also had a stolen gun, RCSO said.
Godair was traveling with Dial when he was located in Robeson County, near Lumberton. Godair was arrested, officials say, and the stolen truck was recovered in Robeson County.
Dial has been charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, and accessory to murder. Dial was returned to Rowan County by RCSO Detectives, and placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond.
Godair was taken in custody under no bond for murder. This investigation continues with additional charges possible.
