CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three gang members were arrested Thursday in connection with a drive-by shooting in Union County earlier this year, deputies announced.

Investigators identified three suspects in the case: 19-year-old Derrick Moses, 22-year-old Lukus Buchanon and 25-year-old Eddie Blackwell III. All three were taken into custody and charged with multiple felonies for the alleged involvement in the shooting. Buchanon and Blackwell have previous convictions for felonies and all three suspects openly identified as gang members, deputies alleged.

Each of the suspects was charged with three counts of attempted murder and three counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling. Buchanon and Blackwell were also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. All three men are still in jail.

Anyone with information about this shooting or any other incident is asked to call the Union County Sheriff's Office at 704-283-3789. Witnesses may also call Union County Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600. All calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous.

Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
