Man taken into custody after south Charlotte SWAT situtation

A man had barricaded himself inside an apartment near Scaleybark Road, according to police and a witness.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A section of Woodlawn Road between South Boulevard and Park Road in south Charlotte is reopened to traffic after an earlier SWAT situation, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. The man was taken into custody.

CMPD's SWAT team had responded near the intersection of Woodlawn Road and Scaleybark Road on Monday morning. The intersection was closed throughout the investigation. 

Witnesses told WCNC Charlotte a man had locked himself inside a nearby apartment. The witness had heard the man screaming since 1 a.m.

The situation was "peacefully resolved," according to CMPD.

Police described the man as being armed with a weapon. It was not immediately the type of weapon.
