Teen accused of shooting 14-year-old in chest in Shelby

Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a drug deal gone wrong.

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — A 14-year-old boy is recovering after being shot in the chest by a 17-year-old boy in Cleveland County, the sheriff's office said.

It happened in the area of Devine Road in Shelby. Investigators said they found the victim and the suspect together in a vehicle. The victim was given aid until he could be taken to Atrium Health in Shelby and then Charlotte.

Deputies tracked the location of the shooting to 908 Jim Elliott Road. There, they said they found a Glock .45 cal handgun, about two ounces of marijuana, and around $1,800 in cash.

Gabriel Caleb Alsubagha was charged with attempted first-degree murder and held under $500,000 secured bond.

The victim is in critical but stable condition. Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a drug deal gone wrong.
