CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jesus Eduardo Sanchez, 17, has been charged with a DWI after causing a violent crash when he ran a red light on N. Sharon Amity Road at Vernedale.
Officers responded to the crash site around 4 a.m. where their investigation concluded that Sanchez was driving a Ford F250 Pickup when he ran the red light. In doing so, he struck a Pontiac that was driving through the intersection.
There were three people in the Pontiac at the time of impact. Two of those individuals were trapped in their car because of the crash. The driver is currently at Carolinas Medical Center being treated for life-threatening injuries. One of the passengers is being treated at CMC for serious injuries, the other passenger has been treated and released.
Sanchez has been charged with a felony hit and run, DWI, consuming under 21, no operators license and felony serious injury by vehicle.
