CMPD said the suspect faces a trio of charges tied to the shooting from earlier in April.

The teen suspect is accused of killing 17-year-old Kaleb Brown on April 12, less than two weeks prior to their arrest. CMPD and Medic said Brown was shot and killed along Boswell Road in east Charlotte.

It's the second time Tuesday CMPD announced the arrest of a teen in a deadly shooting. A 17-year-old was charged with murder in connection with the shooting of 21-year-old Abijah Barkley.

Just more than a week ago, CMPD shared crime statistics for the first quarter of 2024. While Charlotte is seeing a 1% decrease in violent crime, there's been a 3% crime increase overall.

Youth crime is something that Charlotte leaders have been working to tackle, including CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings and Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden. During a recent episode of Flashpoint on WCNC Charlotte, Jennings and McFadden shared how their departments are seeking solutions to the issue.

CMPD noted in 2023 it saw a 34% increase in the number of juveniles arrested, along with a 33% increase in underage suspects named in shooting cases.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600 or leave a tip online. A CMPD homicide detective can also be reached by calling (704) 432-TIPS.
