Two suspects were arrested in Hoke County the next day, Sheriff Mark Gulledge said. One of the suspects, a 17-year-old, hasn't been identified due to his age. The other suspect was named as 18-year-old Kevin Jonathan Murphy. Both suspects are from the town of Raeford, which is about 40 miles east of Rockingham.

Murphy and the 17-year-old were transported back to Richmond County where they were charged with one count of murder. Murphy was denied bond and remains in jail. The 17-year-old suspect is being held in a juvenile detention center, officials said.

No further details were released by investigators.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.

WCNC Charlotte is showing the mugshot of the suspects in this case due to the serious nature of their charges.
