CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A dispute between a tow truck driver and a car owners ends in gunfire at the Park South Station community.
People living in the community are extremely shake up. One woman witness what happened and told NBC Charlotte she saw the tow truck driver actually pointing the gun.
"Anybody has a gun and it could be the tow truck guy or it can be the budget truck driving by now," said Jana Rogers, South End Station resident.
Rogers took her two little girls for a bike ride Saturday. However, after hearing the shocking news about a tow truck driver shooting a person he was getting ready to tow, she always didn't leave the house.
"I did think maybe I shouldn't go for a walk, but I figured there'd be better patrol," said Rogers.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Jarvis Simpson was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. We're told the driver of this red truck is expected to make a full recovery.
Fifty yards from where the shooting happened a little girl was having her birthday party. Across the street from where shots were fired, families playing with their dogs in the park.
"We were here, we were awake and actually happened a couple hundred feet from our house," said Matthew Howard. "When it hits that close to home it definitely gets a little bit crazy."
This isn't the first time tow truckers have made headlines. Predatory towing has been a hot button issue for years in Charlotte. The problem seems to have found its way into the south end station neighborhood causing tempers to flare.
"It seems as if they have really been enforcing places you can and can't park and it's really getting out of control," said Howard.
We reached out to the towing company involved in the incident, but they have not returned our phone call yet.
