Two charged after duct taping a 12-year-old to a chair, punching him, officials say

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office said the assault resulted in the 12-year-old having an orbital fracture to the face. Officials say he had also been left duct taped to a chair overnight.

STATESVILLE, N.C. — A 71-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were charged with felony assault inflicting serious injury on a child, officials say. 

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office said on March 27, someone reported possible child abuse. The person had text messages and pictures of a young man, duct taped to a chair on Peacock Hollar Road in western Iredell County.

Detectives immediately responded to check on the welfare of the child, a 12-year-old. 

The suspects were identified as Frances Miller, 71, and Dustin Miller, 20.

Frances Miller held the child’s hands behind his back while Dustin Miller punched the child, officials say.

ICSO said the assault resulted in the 12-year-old having an orbital fracture to the face. Officials say the child had also been left duct taped to a chair overnight.

Both Frances Miller and Dustin Miller were arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center after officials investigated the case.

Frances Miller was charged with felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury, two counts of misdemeanor child abuse, and misdemeanor false imprisonment. She was issued a $25,000 secured bond. 

Dustin Miller was charged with felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury, and misdemeanor simple assault. He received a $22,500 secured bond.
