Teens accused of breaking into Union County schools

The suspects are facing multiple felony charges in connection with break-ins at Piedmont High School and Piedmont Middle School.

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Two former students are facing charges in connection with a series of break-ins at Piedmont High School and Piedmont Middle School in Union County, deputies said.

School resource officers with the Union County Sheriff's Office were called to investigate break-ins at the schools earlier this week. During the investigation, deputies determined that two people forced their way into the buildings and stole several items.

Both suspects were identified as former students at Piedmont High. One of the suspects, 18-year-old Brendan Cranor, was arrested and remains in jail. He's charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny, first-degree trespassing and injury to personal property. The second suspect, a 17-year-old boy, is also facing multiple charges. The 17-year-old is not in custody after a juvenile security custody order was denied, according to the sheriff's office. He has not been identified due to his age.

No further information was released at this time. Anyone with information about these incidents or any other crime is asked to call the Union County Sheriff's Office at 704-283-3789.
