Katrina Screen with Premier Concierge, a home watch business, said the holidays are a big time of the year for theft and break-ins. She offered advice on what you can do so you don't fall victim.

“We go into the home and put slippers or a pair of shoes by the back door," Screen said. “Double check your locks and your fences, and make sure you are locked up before you leave home. Just be a good neighbor anyway and tell them we are not going to be home, can you please watch our house.”

Screen said if you live in a secluded area, local law enforcement can also be a good tool.

“If you contact your local law enforcement, they will actually do a drive-by for people on vacation for an extended period of time," Screen said.
