Deadly shooting reported near Romare Bearden Park in Uptown Charlotte

Paramedics said the patient was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A shooting that unfolded near Romare Bearden Park in Uptown Charlotte Saturday night turned deadly.

Medic confirmed to WCNC Charlotte it responded to the area along South Church Street and West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 10 p.m. The patient they treated was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Later in the night, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed it had launched a homicide investigation. Details were shared shortly before midnight.

CMPD told WCNC Charlotte officers responded just before 10 p.m. and found a 17-year-old male with gunshot wounds. The victim, who has not been identified yet, later died.

The investigation is still ongoing and possible suspects have not been named.
