2 USPS employees robbed within a week of each other in Charlotte, authorities report

In one instance, a CMPD report notes a letter carrier's master key was stolen.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities in Charlotte say two letter carriers employed by the U.S. Postal Service were robbed within a week of each other, and are now trying to find the suspects responsible.

The first robbery happened on Saturday, Jan. 13 according to a reward notice from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, shared on X. The USPIS says the robbery of the letter carrier happened shortly after 1 p.m. that day along East 18th Street in the Optimist Park area, near North Caldwell Street. The suspect appeared to be a man in his mid-20s, about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black balaclava-type face covering, a black puffy jacket, and white athletic shoes.

The USPIS is offering a $150,000 reward for information leading to the suspect's arrest and warns the suspect should be deemed armed and dangerous. Anyone who can provide information is asked to call 1-877-876-2455 and say "law enforcement" when prompted. The case number for referencing purposes is 4228944. Reports can also be made online.

The second robbery happened on Friday, Jan. 19 just before 1 p.m. on Dickens Avenue near Minnesota Road in west Charlotte. A report from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says the letter carrier was approached by a suspect who produced a gun and stole the master key from the carrier. No details about the suspect were included in the public narrative published by the department.

As of publication, the USPIS has not published a wanted notice for the incident along Dickens Avenue. Regardless, anyone with information is encouraged to contact CMPD.
