NEWTON, N.C. — Nearly a year after a Catawba County teen was found in a Virginia man's car, that man has been sentenced for first degree kidnapping.
In Catawba County Superior Court on Tuesday, Cameron Michael Blair pled guilty to first degree kidnapping and indecent liberties with a child. It comes after Blair's arrest in April 2023.
Early last year, 23-year-old Blair had started interacting with a Catawba County teenager using an online gaming site. Based on this interaction, Blair traveled from his home in Virginia to the teenager's home on April 5, 2023.
Deputies received a report that a suspicious vehicle was in the neighborhood; when they arrived, they found Blair and the teen sitting in his car. The teenager was removed from the vehicle and reunited with family, and sheriff's investigators arrested Blair.
He has been in the Catawba County Detention Facility since then.
"We are thankful for the neighbors call which allowed our deputies to intervene before something more tragic potentially occurred," Sheriff Don Brown said. "We are pleased with the District Attorney’s work in this case and that Mr. Blair is facing justice for these crimes."
With Tuesday's sentencing, he is now set to serve 52-123 months and 16-29 months concurrently in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.
