MARSHVILLE, N.C. — WCNC Charlotte has chosen to use this mugshot because the suspect is in custody and charged with murder.
The search for a Wadesboro homicide suspect ended Thursday, more than a month after police said the suspect was on the run.
The Wadesboro Police Department said 26-year-old Dewon Rayquan Hailey was taken into custody in the town of Marshville, located in Union County. He was found at a residence and is now charged with murder. He will be held in the Anson County Jail without bond, awaiting trial.
Hailey is accused of shooting and killing 30-year-old Jamarcus D. Sellers of Rockingham. Detectives previously said Sellers was shot in a Wadesboro apartment on March 6. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
Police said Hailey was quickly identified as the lone suspect and was believed to be somewhere in Union County.
Wadesboro is the seat of Anson County. Marshville, where Hailey was arrested, is about 18 miles west in neighboring Union County.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
