CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Multiple people were taken into custody during a SWAT operation at west Charlotte skills arcade on Tuesday morning.
It happened around 7 a.m. at the Shark Tank skill arcade near the Cash America Pawn on Freedom Drive. This is near the Freedom Village Shopping Center in west Charlotte. WCNC Charlotte's crews saw several Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police cruisers and SWAT officers at the scene.
Later in the day Tuesday, CMPD shared they searched the arcade, claiming it was illegal.
The department said officers with its Alcohol Beverage Control Unit and SWAT seized several firearms, a large sum of money, and illegal gaming equipment. Additionally, one person was arrested on an outstanding warrant while others present were cited for providing armed security without the required licensing.
CMPD said the investigation is still ongoing.
Greg Miller runs Figs Auto Repair, just next door to the arcade. He saw the moment officers arrived on the scene.
"Before I knew it there was a SWAT team and everybody with their guns out and everything going on over there," he said.
Miller added it's not the first time he's seen law enforcement outside the arcade.
“I wouldn't say it's real frequent but it, it definitely happens," he said. "When something's going on, that's probably where it is for sure."
Multiple people were seen being taken into custody. As of publication, those people haven't been identified.
