Belmont elementary school evacuated on first day of the school year

Multiple people commented on the Facebook post from Belmont Police noting that they were not called by the school.

BELMONT, N.C. — All students were evacuated from Belmont Central Elementary on the first day of school Wednesday. It happened due to a gas leak, according to the Belmont Police Department.

Crews at the scene found the gas leak, police said, and the school has been ventilated.

Students returned to class around 10:45 a.m.

The school had not shared and information on Facebook as of 12:10 p.m. Multiple people commented on the Facebook post from Belmont Police noting that they were not called by the school.
