BELMONT, N.C. — All students were evacuated from Belmont Central Elementary on the first day of school Wednesday. It happened due to a gas leak, according to the Belmont Police Department.
Crews at the scene found the gas leak, police said, and the school has been ventilated.
Students returned to class around 10:45 a.m.
The school had not shared and information on Facebook as of 12:10 p.m. Multiple people commented on the Facebook post from Belmont Police noting that they were not called by the school.
