CONCORD, N.C. — Cabarrus County Schools district leaders heard from the community on plans to close Beverly Hills Elementary School. It’s all part of the district’s long-term redistricting plan.
Many parents are already fired up about what this could mean for their children. Cabarrus County Schools is holding a public hearing Monday night about the proposal.
The district has been struggling with some schools reaching maximum capacity due to overcrowding and the district recently hired a California-based firm to come up with a solution.
According to information presented at school board meeting nearly two weeks ago, Beverly Hills Elementary School is on a list of schools with “areas reassigned” as part of one possible redistricting scenario.
Three possible scenarios were presented on Jan. 16 with the school board set to hear public comment Monday, Jan. 29.
The school board will vote on the final plan on Feb. 12.
School leaders have expressed the need to make a decision soon to solve the overcrowding problems quickly.
"Doing nothing or putting this off or delaying it is not an answer, it’s not something that we can entertain," CCS Superintendent John Kopicki said.
Anyone wanting to weigh in on the proposed closing of Beverly Hills Elementary school can sign up for public comment until noon on Monday by emailing the board clerk at boardclerk@cabarrus.k12.nc.us.
