ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Students and staff members at Catawba College are resuming regular schedules after briefly being advised to shelter in place on Tuesday.
The shelter-in-place advisory was sent around 2 p.m. because of police activity near the school. The Salisbury Police Department told WCNC Charlotte someone had heard gun shots but no arrests have been made.
As a precaution, Horizon Unlimited, a science center operated by the Rowan-Salisbury School System, was also placed on lockdown. It was previously thought the emergency may have occurred at the science center but the school system later confirmed to WCNC Charlotte the incident did not occur on their campus.
Multiple parents posted a comment on the college's Facebook page, saying their children told them the campus was safe.
Catawba College is located in Salisbury, about 45 miles northeast of Charlotte in Rowan County.
