CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Relief is on the way for some Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools campuses as district leaders work to relieve overcrowding in the classroom.
Overcrowded classrooms continue to be a symptom of the growing pains CMS is feeling as it expands. District leaders approved $1.3 million Wednesday for mobile classrooms that should provide a temporary break.
The new mobile units will be installed at Ardrey Kell High School, Julius Chamber High School and Davidson K-8 School. CMS says it is over the number of students they projected for the school year and district leaders are hopeful this solution will bring comfort to students and staff.
"The enrollment for 2022-23 for CMS is 141,219," interim superintendent Hugh Hattabaugh said. "This is 252 students over what was projected."
CMS will also hold several public engagement meetings to receive feedback from parents. Those meetings are scheduled for this month and next month. During those meetings, CMS will discuss topics like school relief and boundaries.
