Major renovations a welcome change at Clover High School

Like many other South Carolina districts, Clover's enrollment continues to grow, with construction ongoing for three new schools.

CLOVER, S.C. — Clover School District students and staff returned to the classroom on Thursday and the number of students continues to grow each year.

Because of this growth, Clover High School students will see some renovations as ongoing construction takes place to prepare for three new schools to open in the next two years.

Superintendent Sheila Quinn said a lot of preparing for this school year coincided with planning for fall 2026, when the Clover School District will have new elementary and high schools, as well as a ninth-grade center turned into a middle school.

Clover High School is the only high school in the district now with about 2,800 students. For years, students have been packed into tight hallways, but that changes this school year. The district has nearly finished $17 million in renovations that will make life easier for teachers, students and families.

The renovations include new traffic loops, athletics facilities, a new media center and a commons area with plenty of space and updated furniture.

Quinn says construction will continue throughout the school year as the ninth-grade campus next door is currently being transformed into the new Roosevelt Middle School. Meanwhile, crews have just begun the foundation for Lake Wylie High School.

Liberty Hill Elementary School has yet to begin construction as the district is still working on selecting a bid.

"We’re hoping those bids come in a little lower than what we’ve seen some of the prices come in at the high school," Quinn said. "There's still some adjustment going on since COVID on construction prices, particularly in the Charlotte area, so we will see. Right now we are on a timeline for a 2026 opening of three new schools."

Quinn also says the new school year budget is a nearly 7% increase from last year to prepare to staff the new schools and they’ll continue to hire more bus drivers each year until fall 2026.
