ELON, N.C. — Elon University said it has placed the Delta Delta Delta sorority on probation for two years for "multiple violations of the Code of Conduct."
The violations involved activities connected with the new member education program, according to the university. Elon News Network reported the disciplinary actions came after investigations of hazing. The news network said some activities involved alcohol, costumes, and blindfolds.
Elon said the sorority will not be allowed to recruit a new class next spring. The university said the organization will work with its national officers to improve its new member practices.
Greek life has gained national attention for hazing, mostly recently, at the University of Maryland, which suspended several fraternities and sororities. Earlier this year, a fraternity at the University of Virginia was suspended after officials said a student was hospitalized due to a hazing incident.
Here's the full statement from Elon University:
"Following a thorough investigation, Elon University has placed the Delta Delta Delta sorority on disciplinary probation for a period of two years for multiple violations of the Code of Conduct related to activities connected with the new member education program. In addition to the probationary status, the organization will not be recruiting a new member class in Spring 2025, and will be working with their national officers and the Office of Student Involvement to strengthen their internal and new member education policies and practices."
