STATESVILLE, N.C. — The Iredell-Statesville school district is changing the rules at football games for everyone's safety after multiple arrests and threats of violence caused a game to be postponed last week.
The Statesville vs. West Iredell game saw multiple arrests and the stadium was evacuated early. Officials suspended the game in the third quarter and finished it Monday without fans in attendance. Now, the district is changing its policy for all football games in an effort to prevent these issues from happening again.
Starting Thursday, Oct. 12, Iredell-Statesville school football games will have earlier start times: junior varsity kicking off at 6 p.m. and varsity at 6:30 p.m. Stadium parking will be restricted to game staff only.
Anyone who needs handicapped parking will be directed to a designated area on each campus. The district will also continue to screen everyone attending games, limit personal items allowed inside the stadium and require adult chaperones for children.
