A Kannapolis native auditioned for 'The Voice.' Here's how he did

Josh Sanders performed a rendition of "Whiskey On You" by Nate Smith.

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — A Kannapolis native made it onto NBC's "The Voice" on Monday.

Josh Sanders performed a rendition of "Whiskey On You" by Nate Smith, and got two chairs to turn: One from Reba McEntire and one from coaching duo Dan + Shay.

"The power, once you got into it, I really did like it," McEntire said. "Then I saw them turning around -- I thought, 'Oh my gosh, now what am I going to have to do?' But I would really love to have you on Team Reba."

Dan + Shay complimented his approach to the song, and said they couldn't "just give it to Reba."

Sanders said he leads worship most Sundays, and it helps keep his voice sharp.

McEntire and Dan + Shay fought for Sanders, but he ultimately decided to join McEntire's team.

"Guys I love y'all, but I can't turn down the queen of country, so it's Reba," Sanders said.
