CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sainted Trap Choir, based in Charlotte, is heading back to the national stage.
The trap choir will be featured on NBC's "America's Got Talent: Fantasy League," a brand new spin-off of the popular show.
Sainted made it to the semifinals in season 18 of "America's Got Talent," which aired on WCNC Charlotte earlier this year. The trap choir, which started in 2020 and features over 25 members, received a standing ovation from the judges earlier this year when performing for a chance in the "AGT" finals.
When the group didn't make the finals, Dennis Reed Jr. with Sainted Trap Choir shared a video to Instagram saying he's proud of their accomplishments, and that Sainted hoped the Charlotte community was proud of them.
"We did it for y'all, and we did it for our kinfolk," Reed said at the time. "God put us on this show, I don't know what's happening next but I'm down for the ride and I just want to tell all of y'all, thank you, thank you, thank you."
Now it's clear what's happening next: A chance to compete again.
"BIG SAINTED, WITH BIG NEWS! We’re diving into a new adventure – participating in the @AGT Fantasy League!" Sainted posted on its Instagram. "The premiere is on January 1st! We can’t wait to share in this moment with you all! 🙏🏽"
For the new spin-off, judges will be competing against each other, each leading a "Dream Team" made up of acts from across various "AGT" seasons. The judges in question are familiar faces for fans of the show: Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Terry Crews, in addition to the return of previous "AGT" Judge Mel B.
The winning act will get a $250,000 grand prize.
The show will premiere on WCNC Charlotte on Monday, Jan. 1 at 8 p.m.
