CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-based act Sainted Trap Choir made their debut on NBC's "America's Got Talent: Fantasy League," and they certainly made an impact.
After Sainted's rousing performance of Prince's "Purple Rain," judge Simon Cowell pressed the Golden Buzzer, awarding the group an automatic spot in the AGT finals.
Cowell said it was a moment he would never forget.
"I really pray that this moment will change your lives, and I'm going to give you something from my heart," Cowell said to the group before pressing the Golden Buzzer.
Monday's episode was the last of the qualifiers. Only one act could be given a Golden Buzzer to earn an automatic spot in the finals, and the audience will vote to send five additional acts to the semi-finals.
Sainted made it to the semifinals in season 18 of "America's Got Talent," which aired on WCNC Charlotte in 2023. The group first formed in 2020 and features over 25 members.
In 2023, when the group didn't make the finals, Dennis Reed Jr. with Sainted Trap Choir shared a video to Instagram saying he's proud of their accomplishments, and that Sainted hoped the Charlotte community was proud of them.
For the "Fantasy League" spin-off, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Terry Crews, and Mel B are competing against each other, with each leading a "Dream Team" made up of acts from across various "AGT" seasons. The winning act will get a $250,000 grand prize.
