LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- A food truck explosion left a large number of homes with collateral damage late Friday night.

Lakeville Deputy Chief John Kornmann, tells KARE 11 that police and fire were dispatched around 11 p.m. to the scene of a vehicle explosion in the 16500 block of Joplin Avenue.

Upon arrival responders found the shell of a food vending truck that had been destroyed and numerous houses damaged by flying debris. It appears that the truck was parked in a driveway when it exploded, scattering pieces of metal and parts up to 500 feet away. Several garage doors were blown in by the sheer force of the explosion, windows broken, siding damaged and several trees lost limbs.

"My kids are all asleep and it's like a bomb went off, honest to goodness," shared neighbor Jason Anderson. "Everything off the walls in our house, windows broken. We came outside, thought a house went up. We realize all of a sudden it was the food truck. "

"We have some garage doors that have blown in, front window on a home next door that has been blown in, and rather significant damage to the home where the vehicle was in fact parked," said Lakeville Deputy Chief of Police John Kornmann.

Authorities received calls from as far as Farmington -- six miles away -- from people reporting the blast.

Early indications are that the explosion was propane-related.

Two people on the scene received minor injuries but declined medical treatment.

Lakeville Police and Fire are investigating the cause of the explosion, along with the State Fire Marshall's Office.
