GASTONIA, N.C. — The Gaston County Police Department reports a man has been arrested following a 5-hour standoff with their officers.

Police report the original incident happened back on April 11, when officers of the Gaston County Police Department investigated a reported kidnapping and assault.

Police said after a thorough investigation, several felony criminal charges were obtained against 27-year-old Christopher Donald Hibberts.

On Monday, April 22, police said Hibberts was tracked down to a home in the 1700 block of Old Spencer Mountain Rd, Dallas, NC. Gaston County.

When Police K9 Officers attempted to confront Hibberts, police report he ran to the residence and barricaded himself inside.

According to police,  many attempts to get Hibberts to comply with police commands were unsuccessful. The Gaston County Police Emergency Response Team responded and tried multiple methods to get him to come outside. Hibberts would not surrender and after approximately five hours, forceful entry was made into his residence.

Hibberts was located in a hiding place and then arrested without any injury to him or officers, police report.

Hibberts was taken to the Gaston County Jail and served with multiple warrants, to include 2nd-degree kidnapping, break and enter to terrorize or injure, assault on a female, assault by pointing a gun, and interfere with emergency communication (911). He is currently being held without bond.

If anyone has information on the initial crime of which Hibberts is accused, they are asked to contact Officer M.T. Johnson at (704) 866-3320 or CrimeStoppers at (704) 861-800
