LANCASTER, S.C. — Robin Young, the founding board member of Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue, has spent her life helping others - helping heal the sick as a nurse, helping the homeless and helping abandoned dogs.
To do all of that, there are a lot of battles that Young has had to fight. Today, she’s fighting two major battles. One is to save innocent little animals and the other is a challenge of a lifetime.
It all started on Aug. 31, when eight newly-born puppies were dropped off at her home in Lancaster, South Carolina. Those sweet dogs were left in a bag on the side of the road. Had it not been for Robin and the Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue team, the helpless puppies would not have survived the terrible ordeal.
That same day, Young had a health screening and received a devastating breast cancer diagnosis. On Oct. 4, she had a double mastectomy and now she is on the road to recovery.
Caring for rescues has become part of the healing….and the helping process for Young.
Being responsible for the rescued pups, and all the pugs has been a commitment that has literally helped to save Young's life. The organization is such a positive force, it has been a catalyst to overcome the diagnosis she received.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Learn about early detection here.
