CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As of Thursday, there were 16,507 lab confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 616 deaths. From Wednesday to Thursday the state is reporting 691 new cases, which is up from 470 new cases the day before.
While North Carolina did see its highest number of new cases Thursday with 691, Dr. Mandy Cohen, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, says the seven-day rolling average shows total lab confirmed cases across the state are leveling.
Cohen said because the state is doing more testing, a slight increase in cases is to be expected.
The percentage of test that are positive is going down and leveling.
"So while we're seeing slightly more positive cases overall with the increase in testing, the percent positive continues to look good," Cohen said.
The trend for the number of people who go to the emergency department with COVID-like symptoms is declining.
North Carolina is relatively stable on the metrics, but Cooper says he's they need to continue to monitor the trends and data before determining if the state can enter Phase 2.
