A Huntersville police officer is battling a rare cancer. A fundraiser has brought in thousands of dollars so far

Bill Broadway was diagnosed with a rare cancer of the bile ducts that has already spread to his stomach and intestines.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A Charlotte family is facing a difficult fight against a rare cancer. Already, significant support has flowed into a fundraiser to help them with the financial burden with more than half of the goal met thus far.

The GoFundMe for Bill Broadway went live on Jan. 3, 2023, intending to raise $30,000. Since then, more than $18,000 has been donated, and the fundraiser's organizer hopes to exceed the goal to help as much as possible.

On Dec. 29, 2023, he and his family got a diagnosis: cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer of the bile ducts. The cancer has already spread to the lining of Broadway's intestines and stomach, and he will soon face chemotherapy and other treatments recommended by his medical team.
