What's going around: Sore throats, tummy troubles

Patients are going to their doctors looking for antibiotics to cure their symptoms, but they may not get them.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sore throats and tummy troubles are what's going around this week in the Charlotte area.

Let's start in South Park at Novant Health Pediatrics where there's a lot going around: UTIs, ear infections, asthma, wheezing, stomach virus, upper respiratory infections, and allergies – especially ones affecting the eyes.

At Novant Health SouthPark Family Physicians, you guessed it: Sore throats and stomach viruses.

At Novant Health Pediatrics Ballantyne, the trend continues with lots of stomach bugs and sore throats.

A quick note from Novant: Most of these sore throats are viral, meaning patients coming in looking for antibiotics to cure their symptoms probably won't get them.

Unfortunately, you just have to let the virus run its course and treat the symptoms with over the counter medication. You should feel better in eight to 10 days.
