I-77 southbound reopens after vehicle fire

Officials say it was the cab of a tractor-trailer with no trailer attached that caught on fire in the roadway.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Fire, NC State Highway Patrol and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department all responded after a vehicle fire on Interstate 77 southbound Sunday evening. 

CMPD was assisting with traffic control while the incident was being managed, but the NC Department of Transportation said the interstate has since returned to normal. 

A viewer captured footage of the vehicle on fire. Officials say it was the cab of a tractor-trailer with no trailer attached.

At this time, officials have not said what caused the fire.
