CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Larry Sprinkle will be inducted into the inaugural class of the Charlotte Broadcast Hall of Fame.

He's gotten us through severe weather and has made our mornings, and the community, a little brighter. Larry Sprinkle is celebrating 30 years at NBC Charlotte and he says he's honored to be included in the Charlotte Broadcast Hall of Fame.

"It's very humbling to be on that list and be among the first inductees," Sprinkle said.

Larry started at a radio station in Rutherford County when he was 14-years-old. He began as the janitor, but one day the music stopped while he was cleaning up and he jumped on the air.

And remember those Ty-D-Bol commercials? Larry was the man in those national commercials.

The Charlotte Broadcast Hall of Fame honors those who have played a major role in the area's radio and television broadcasting history.

It was founded by Central Piedmont Community College and luncheon will honor those inducted at the Charlotte City Club on August 21.

The 2015 class includes:

  • Grady Cole, WBT(AM)
  • Charles Crutchfield, WBT(AM/TV)
  • Betty Feezor, WBT(TV)
  • Earle Gluck, WBT(AM)
  • Rev. Billy Graham, a native of Charlotte
  • Stan & Sis Kaplan, WROQ(FM)
  • Charles Kuralt, WBT(AM)
  • Doug Mayes, WBT(AM/TV), WSOC(TV)
