LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- One person is dead after a crash in Lincoln County Wednesday night.
According to North Carolina Highway Patrol, 23-year-old Jeremiah "Jake" Atkins was traveling east on Highway 27 in western Lincoln County when he hit a tree. Troopers say that a passenger in Atkins' car was flown to CMC with life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.
Officials say that speed was a factor in the crash.
