CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating after a man driving a stolen vehicle was killed in a crash on I-77 in Charlotte Saturday morning.
According to state troopers, Cameron Dequan Williams, 25, was driving a stolen Mercedes-Benz from Kannapolis in the northbound lanes of I-77 when he attempted to exit onto Woodlawn Road and lost control of the vehicle. Troopers said the vehicle ran off the right shoulder and struck a tree before overturning three times.
Williams was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers jumped and ran from the vehicle after the crash, troopers said.
One of the passengers, who has not been identified, returned to the scene. He was taken into police custody.
