CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials are responding after over 1,000 gallons of gasoline spilled in the Cider Hill neighborhood in northwest Charlotte Wednesday morning.
A spill from an unknown vehicle spilled near I-485 and Mount Holly Road caused gasoline to discharge into Long Creek, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services said.
"This is an active environmental cleanup that we will continue to oversee until the product is removed and conditions restored," Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services said in a tweet.
The Charlotte Fire Department said there is no fire hazard and that clean-up is in progress. Firefighters said residents may smell an odor of gasoline in the area, though no action is required.
