BESSEMER CITY, N.C. — North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced Thursday the state is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in a 2022 Gaston County homicide.
On March 22, 2022, law enforcement officers responded to a reported shooting on Interstate 85 near Exit 13. When officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Uriah Diondreus McCree, who had been shot multiple times. McCree was taken to the hospital where he died due to his injuries.
"He was loved," Christina Michaels, McCree's mother told WCNC Charlotte in 2022. "He had a wonderful family. He had a brother and sister who loved him very much... He had a son that he don’t even get to go to his first birthday next month. He misses that.”
Michaels told WCNC Charlotte at the time that she feared her son knew the person who shot him.
"All I can keep thinking about is when he was on that highway, he was probably so scared," Michaels said. "I bet he was thinking in his head, ‘Mama, they’re fixing to kill me.'”
Anyone having information concerning this case should contact Bessemer City Police Department at (704) 729-6518 or the State Bureau of Investigation at (919) 662-4500.
The new cash reward was one of several issues on Thursday by the governor's office. A new $25,000 reward is also being offered in the case of Madalina Cojocari, who was 11 years old when she disappeared from Cornelius in 2022.
