CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Three students are facing charges after a fight broke out at Vance High School Tuesday morning.

Donavan Meeks, 17; DaQuan Davidson, 19; and D'Aunte Conner, 17, face various charges related to the fight, which broke out before 7 a.m. inside the school cafeteria.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the school resource officer used a Taser stun gun on Meeks in an attempt to stop the fight. The school resource officer called CMPD for backup.

Meeks was charged with disorderly conduct, inciting a riot and resisting a public officer.

CMPD spokesman Robert Fey said Davidson was charged with disorderly conduct and inciting a riot after he was witnessed standing on top of a cafeteria table, attempting to incite other students.

Fey said Conner was charged with inciting a riot and damage to property after he attempted to escalate the crowd and then punched and damaged a window in the cafeteria.

School administrators called parents to inform them about the incident.

I am concerned, said parent Dale Miller. When my son first started at Vance, I thought it was fabulous. There weren't incidents going on. But as of lately, there's a lot of stuff that's happening here and it does concern me.

A CMPD report released in February shows that 61 people have been arrested at Vance since the beginning of the school year. That's up about 660 percent compared to last year's total of eight arrests. The arrests included charges of drug possession, assault, larceny and carrying a concealed weapon.

Since January, police say they have been called to Vance High School a total of 42 times.
