CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Three people were taken into custody following a SWAT standoff in north Charlotte Sunday.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers located a wanted vehicle in connection with a recent armed robbery. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop before crashing near the intersection of West 28th Street and North Poplar Street.

Police say that five people ran from the vehicle after the crash. Two of the subjects were detained after a brief chase on foot. Officers followed the other three to a nearby apartment complex in the 2600 block of Bellefonte Drive.

Members of the SWAT Team and Negotiators were called to the scene and set up a perimeter. Residents of the apartment complex were relocated as a precaution. A third subject was eventually located and taken into custody, said the press release.

CMPD has charged Deangelo Martin, 17, with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and hit and run. Police also apprehended two juveniles during the incident. They have each been charged with resisting arrest.

The other two suspects remain at large.
