CONCORD, N.C. — An accidental shooting was under investigation at a hospital in Cabarrus County on Wednesday, police said.
It happened around 3:30 p.m. at Atrium Health Cabarrus, formerly known as North East Medical Center, in Concord, according to police.
"Initial reports are that this was an accidental discharged," police tweeted. "The shoe of one individual was grazed."
Police said there was no additional threat to the public.
Atrium Health released a statement on the incident:
Wednesday afternoon, a person visiting our Cabarrus location accidentally discharged a firearm inside the hospital. It is clearly posted at Atrium Health facilities that, except for law enforcement, firearms and other weapons are prohibited on our property. The state of North Carolina says it’s against the law to carry a gun where these signs are posted, even if the person has a permit to carry one. We are extremely grateful that no-one was seriously injured. We are cooperating with the local police department as they conduct their investigation into what took place. Any further comment would be best served coming from them.
